Why Should You Hire a Bridal Makeup Artist?

Weddings can be expensive, and hiring a makeup artist might seem like an added expense, but a makeup artist might save you time and money in the long run.  Here are my top 5 reasons why you should hire a professional bridal makeup artist on your wedding day.

Wedding or Bridal Makeup is different from everyday makeup

You should hire a bridal makeup artist for your wedding because bridal makeup is different from your everyday makeup. It is the ultimate form of special occasion makeup. This makeup enhances the bride’s features and minimizes any flaws she might have.  The colors are chosen based on the bride’s coloring, the season and formality of the wedding, the time of day, the gown, and the location. The makeup colors might also be in conjunction with any traditional cultural outfits (Persian, Southeast Asian, etc.). The makeup will have to hold up for the entire wedding day, which could be up to 12-14 hours.

Photographs

Remember, your wedding only lasts a day (usually), but your photographs last a lifetime. A professional bridal makeup artist knows how to make your makeup translate well in those photos and look fabulous in person.  The camera sees differently from the human eye. When you have pictures taken, you need to apply makeup differently from how you would in person.  For a wedding, you are being “seen” by the camera and in person; therefore, the makeup application needs to work for both scenarios.

Quality Products

A professional makeup artist’s kit includes products that are different than what you have at home.  We use professional-grade products that we test for their use case. This is essential for a wedding day, where the makeup needs to last for more than 10 hours.  We know what ingredients to stay away from and what ingredients are good to use for a wedding day. We also have products to combat any potential problem on the wedding day.  For example, if your skin is dehydrated, skin prep that hydrates is needed, or you have teary eyes, waterproof mascara to the rescue.  And, of course, powder to eliminate shine where you don’t want it that won’t cause flashbacks in the photos.

Less Stress

Wedding days can be one of the most stressful days in your life, no matter how well planned. Worrying about your makeup should not add to that stress. A friend who is in the wedding trying to get herself ready and the bride? It could be a recipe for disaster, especially if the friend is not a professional makeup artist.  A professional makeup artist is there to help decrease all that stress.   An experienced makeup artist is the calm amidst the family drama and outside influences. She/he will be able to keep your entire day on schedule, so you walk down the aisle on time, feeling confident.

Feel Confident

Speaking of confidence, one of the most satisfying parts of my job is seeing and feeling the bride’s confidence when she sees her makeup done on the wedding day. Not only does the bride look beautiful, but she glows with confidence that says she knows she looks gorgeous. Empowering a bride, with the power of makeup, creates this confidence in the bride before she walks down the aisle.  One of the main reasons I do makeup is to unleash that beauty, confidence and joy in my clients.

Assuming that you are hiring professionals for every other aspect of your wedding, a professional makeup artist shouldn’t be cut just because of the budget.  The fact is that no matter how wonderful your cake is or how beautiful the flowers are, the only thing that you take away from your wedding day is the photos.  The pictures from your wedding tell a story for future generations long after we are gone.  Your face, your smile, your eyes will be memorialized in each one, for all to admire.  Hiring the right professionals will be an investment that you will be able to reflect on for many years to come.
