While there are many things that you want to have perfect for your wedding day, your bridal makeup is the one that has the most potential to be overlooked. Your pictures will last a lifetime, and given all the time you spend planning your wedding, you don’t want to look back on them with any regrets. Dos for your bridal makeup
Do look like yourself on your very best day. Opt for something timeless and elegant versus trendy. You don’t want to look at your pictures in 20 years to find your makeup tired and dated.
Do a bridal preview or trial. It is essential to have a time to test run your makeup prior to your big day.
Do have your brows professionally groomed before the wedding. If you choose to wax, make sure it is at least the week before. Makeup does not stick to freshly waxed skin, and you want to avoid any breakouts or rashes.
Do wear foundation on your wedding day, even if you don’t normally. It will ensure your face looks flawless all day long, both in person and in your pictures and/or video.
Do hire a professional. It will take the pressure off and guarantee you will look flawless in your wedding photos.
Do talk to your bridal makeup artist. Make sure you communicate your wedding vision to your bridal makeup artist. I always collaborate with my brides, and it is a joint effort to create your bridal makeup.
Don’ts for your bridal makeup
Don’t neglect your skincare just because you will wear makeup. Have a day and night skincare routine in place at least 3-6 months before the wedding to ensure your skin is ready for the big day. Makeup looks even better when your skin is in great shape.
Don’t have any cosmetic procedures done within a week of the wedding. This could include anything from Botox to a simple facial. You don’t want to have a reaction and have to attempt to cover it up with makeup. Also, Botox takes a few days to kick in.
Don’t apply makeup to only your face, especially if you are wearing a strapless dress. Instead, extend the makeup down your neck and onto your shoulders to ensure everything looks seamless.
Don’t wear SPF in your makeup. Some ingredients in sunscreen formulas can cause flashback with flash photography. This can cause the face or specific areas on the face to look lighter, ashy, or sometimes even white.
Don’t forget about the bridal party’s makeup. Your ladies, mom and mother in law will be in pictures with you.
Don’t base your decision on a bridal makeup artist solely on price alone. While budget is an important aspect, don’t forget to look at their portfolio, website, and other social media links. The style of makeup and personality should match your own personal style.
